Time to Come Clean

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 21, 2009, 5:11 PM

I'm sure you've figured out by now that I haven't been posting very many comics lately. Well, to be honest, I've had quite a rough past couple of months. I had a lot of final projects to finish, several final exams, had to help shut down the dorms for Christmas break, attended the funeral of my recently-deceased grandfather, dealt with a lot of problems concerning apartments and roommates, became homeless for a while, lost all forms of income, started bumming off a friend for a while, and losing almost $800 on my "SC Paperback Project." So to be honest, yeah, I've been dealing a bit of stress and a maybe even a little depression lately. I just found out that it costs a lot more money to manage WIFL now that it's an official "group" account, which I don't have the money for. And I've lost a lot of my motivation to do much of anything. I haven't been posting any comics lately because I haven't made any lately. I've broken promises to several people concerning guest-comics and team-up projects and unfortunately everyone over at WIFL. I'm going to try to get all this stuff straightened out, but for now I'm going to stick to my time-off. I'm still going to try to get the "Special ED Christmas" posted before Friday, but even that's not looking so great at this point. I've only recently gotten access back to the internet, so I doubt I'll be as totally gone as I have been the past few weeks. I've got almost 300 deviations to go through and 200 messages to go through, so I'm going to be busy for a little while.

But for those of you wondering what's going to happen with Circle City now, I really don't know. I'm not going to lie; I've gotten really discouraged after only selling one of the paperbacks. I didn't expect it to be a bestseller or anything, but I did expect to sell more than just one. I'm not blaming anyone because, yes I agree, $25 is a lot for a book. I didn't have a choice on that though. Each book cost me $21 to have manufactured. I'll probably make more in the future once I'm better established, but for now, I don't think I'm going to bother with them. And I don't feel much like making Circle City anymore. So you can consider "War Zone" to be a season finale to a show that may or may not end up cancelled.

Earlier this year, I took a month-long break from comics and went back to working on my older books that I intend to submit to actual publishers someday and it turned out to be a decent escape for a while. That's what I'm doing again. I'm sorry to any of you to whom I made a promise concerning comics or team-ups that I'm breaking. I've just taken a lot of hits lately and I think I need to get myself straightened out with the stress of managing a webcomic agenda. Who knows, maybe it's just temporary.

Sorry for getting all negative on you guys, but I thought you deserved to know what's been going on lately. I'm not trying to get your spirits down at all. Believe me, I've been doing my best to enjoy my Christmas break by catching up on some shows I haven't watched in a while and I've been drawing pictures lately (which I haven't done much of since I joined DA). So to all of you, have a Merry Christmas!

Later, guys.

AWOL

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 9, 2009, 6:15 PM

Just informing you guys that I'm going to be gone for a little while. Don't worry, it's not one of those "I hate my life! I'm leaving DA" kind of journals. There are a handful of things that I hope to get done over Winter Break, because I won't be getting another chance any time soon. Sorry for the lack of comics lately. Truth be told, I'm not sure what I want to do with them just yet. I've got a few things to do with WIFL for the rest of the week and I will be gone for a few weeks.

But just for the sake of not keeping you guys in the dark, I'm cutting off Circle City for an indefinite period of time.

On a lighter note, :icongiga-man: is posting "Mick Wabunski" comics again and :icontomcat52897: is doubling up his "Same Apartment" strips to a twice-weekly update. And don't miss out on :iconfr33z3dry:'s fairly new episodic comic series "McEvens Times"

Anyway, don't hate me. I need a break from comics anyway. I still plan on having the Christmas arc posted near Christmas time however.

later,
~Jason

SC News For Late November!

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 21, 2009, 9:02 PM

CIRCLE CITY: Well, I've finally wrapped up 'War Zone' and now I'm ready to take a break and just do some one-shots for a little while. The original schedule had the new ' Pigwarts ' arc coming right after 'War Zone' but I've decided to put that one on the shelf for now, because the script isn't ready. So we'll just have a collection of one-shots until 'A Special ED Christmas' (written by =tomcat52897) is posted. I have a bunch of ideas for this whole "alternate dimensions" idea and because I don't want to overdo it, I'm going to just do some one-shots until I get it all together for January. But don't worry, I'm going to do my best to make those one-shots as fun as possible.

CONTEST: Quick reminder for anyone participating in the "simpleCOMICS Fanart Contest" that the deadline is in three days! (Tuesday, Nov. 24) So if you want to get in some art for the contest, be sure to get it posted and note me so I'll know to include it. More details here [link]

POSTERS: The Andy & Marvin posters have finally gone up on Indyplanet.com and are available for purchase. Just $5 each.

BOOKS: And don't forget to get a copy of "SC Vol. 1" for the holidays! Oh, and one more thing about the books, because this was a question I got from various readers. YES, indyplanet.com does in fact ship INTERNATIONALLY, so no matter where you are, you can get one. And for those of you'd who'd rather go with a smaller investment, there is also the "Stooper Heroes" comic book for $6.

WEEKLY FAVORITE: I started featuring "My Favorite Deviation" for each week on my profile page a couple months ago that some of you may have noticed. Typically, I would try to avoid 'faving' deviations that are so friggin' popular that an extra fave isn't going to do them any good. I'm actually a very picky 'faver' because I tend to only fave the ones that really astound me and ones that I know the artist is genuinely appreciative of. (oh and *cough* I always fave SC fanart *cough*) It sounds petty, but I don't want to be one of those deviants that have thousands and thousands of favorites and I never go back to look at them. Anyway, I decided that I would make a 'weekly fave' feature because I wanted to have something that I honestly thought was the coolest thing I've seen that week, regardless of how popular it was. I tend to avoid putting the artwork of anyone I know in there, because I'm worried that it would come off as promoting someone just because they're my friend. (Although I did feature the work of one friend, but that's because it really was the coolest thing I saw that week). So, that's that. Nothing too elaborate. Just kinda letting you guys know it's there so you can see the kind of stuff I enjoy most as a 'viewer' instead of my busier role as 'creator'.

NEW JOURNAL SKIN: Oh, and I almost forgot to point out (not that it isn't totally obvious) that I applied a new css to my journal that I found on DA. It's the color scheme of Adobe Illustrator and I decided to use that because Illustrator is the primary software that I use while making comics.

Thanks for reading, guys!

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 15, 2009, 10:29 AM
I thought it was going to take a couple more weeks for the book to become available for purchase, but things went a little quicker than I expected and now it's for sale! Woohoo! I've been looking forward to this for the majority of this year!

So here's the [link] for SIMPLE COMPLICATIONS, Vol. 1 - Bunny Tattoo

And here's the [link] for the STOOPER HEROES comic book.

Later, there will be a sampler book for sale and the two posters with Andy and Marvin, but for now it's just the TPB and the Stooper Heroes comic book.

Oh and here's a cheap advertisement/promotion that I made just for fun:
