This is actually the third year in a row I did one of these
I wouldn't say I've been particularly artistic this year, compared to previous years but I was getting a good bit of real-media illustrations made in the first half of the year (I do a lot of drawing outside of DA that I just never post. I post too much stuff as it is with just comics.)
January: A robotic pirate norwall... don't ask. It was entry to a contest hosted by *woohooligan
February: I designed my new SC logo and I've been loving it ever since! (I liked the previous one too, but this one's better.)
March: Testing out a tablet that I won on ebay earlier this year (one I later sold to a friend but unfortunately it was destroyed in Hurricane Sandy.)
April: A sharpie marker illustration of one of my original superhero characters.
May: A Prismacolor illustration of my "High Breed" characters.
June: I did a bunch of character redesigns at the beginning of this past summer and used a template [link] created by =Dualmask to work on the costume designs.
July: I posted a random "crappy summer" SC comic after almost two months of no updates.
August: The titlecard of the new comics that I started posting in August, officially launching the "Season Two" of SC.
September: A panel from and SC comic illustrating the most recent style-change in the series. (I still like the current one most.)
October: A new illustration that served two purpose: titlecard and adcast.
November: A bit of fanart for *CartoonsInMyPants of his webcomics WHAT.
December: Titlecard to the current chapter in SC. I was really happy with the end result of this titlecard because I didn't try to make it "epic" or "teasing". It's just circles having fun.
I'll probably do another on a year from now. Later.
Great stuff indeed, wasn't aware you did traditional art as well - and I've been enjoying your comics since I started watching you a few months back, can't wait to see what else you come up with.
I actually do a lot of things but only post my digital comics on DA, for the most part. I'm a little more self-conscious about my traditional art and I figured I spammed my watchers' inboxes enough with just comics.
Thanks, man. I wish I had the time and patience to do full illustration comics but I just get so tired of working on the same page for more than an hour. (which is why my comics are so simple. Make the joke and move on.) I have a great deal of respect for you guys who put a lot of time and effort into individual illustrations.
I think I too might lack the patience to draw the kind of comics you speak of. Illustrating single images is fine, but when it comes to making comics, I'm always going back and forth between "this is the best way to tell my story" and "ugh, so many panels and backgrounds and perspectives...what a drag" Which is why I never get them done. I'm working on it though...I don't know if there's a better medium for me.
